SEE YOU IN SEPTEMBER

Dear Flinn Gallery Supporters,

During the past season you've seen 24 contemporary artists in diverse media: painting, textiles, photography, sculpture, and video, along with the original 1950s artwork in
"KA-POW! When Comics Imperiled America." Kathleen Vance explored the Horseneck Brook for "Reconnecting With Nature" and recreated the stream (with running water!) in the gallery. Katherine Mann's own take on "The Stream" resulted in a large-scale four panel painting created specifically for "Fukui, Hsu, Mann, Wang." "In Focus" featured Francine Fleischer's photographic series of swimmers that have been shown and published around the world.

Many of the artists we've shown this season have gone on to significant exhibitions: Anne Lilly's kinetic sculptures were featured at the MIT Museum, Nicole Cohen's work was sent to Jakarta by the Art in Embassies program, and Beth Livensperger was selected for the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Letters Invitational (and her prices have subsequently tripled). After receiving rave reviews and coverage in both local television and print media, "KA-POW!" is poised to travel to museums in Florida and London.

We have an exciting 2015-16 season planned for you: sound sculptures, site-specific work, and a lot of beautiful painting too. While our curatorial program is on hiatus over the summer, the gallery remains open as we let out our space to two local arts groups. Please support the Greenwich Arts Society and the Art Society of Old Greenwich as they present their summer juried shows at the Flinn Gallery.

Enjoy the summer and see you in September,
The Flinn Gallery Art Committee

A portion of the proceeds from the sale of artwork during the Flinn exhibit season goes to fund programs of the Friends.

ART OF THE WEEK

Kotaro Fukui

FLIGHTLESS#1, 2015
71 x 283.5 in. - Eight panel folding screen
Japanese paper, Indian ink, mineral pigment

East meets West in our last exhibit of the season " FUKUI  HSU  MANN  WANG"
All four artists have familial and stylistic ties to Asia, yet each has adapted techniques traditionally used by Asian artists to express some of the influences western culture has had on their art.
The aesthetics are distinctly Asian, yet global, steeped in tradition, but thoroughly contemporary.  On view are many large-scale paintings commissioned for this exhibition.
On view through June 17, 2015.
Flinn Gallery is proud to be a part of the nationwide celebration of the Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month in May.
